Creating a Close Friends List to Create Exclusive Content for Top Customers!

For a while now at Crystal Media, we have used a CLose Friend’s List to connect further with our Insider Members – sharing more BTS content, event details, and reminders for training! If you’re unsure what a Close Friends List is, it’s a private group of Instagram users that can be added to an exclusive list to see Stories that aren’t available to the public. It’s kind of like a Facebook Group that is curated by the person who created the list, but only for Stories and not feed posts! A person on your Close Friends List will know you posted an exclusive Story because the ring around your profile will appear green instead of purple and pink!

Green ring for close friends list

An Insider recently asked us how to create a Close Friends List because she wanted to market to her top customers and create Story content exclusively for them. We loved this idea, and wanted to share more info about Close Friends on Instagram in case you wanted to create one of your own!

How to create a Close Friend’s List on Instagram:

To add people to a Close Friend’s List, you can simply go to their profile, select the “Following” button, and under the “Unfollow” option it should give you an option to add them to your “Close Friend’s List”.

You can add and remove people from this list whenever you’d like from your profile. Here’s how:

Step 1) Select the triple lines on the top right of your IG profile to get to the menu.

Step 2) Select “Close Friends”.

Step 3) Search and add people from this screen. Select “Done” when you’re finished. You can always go back here and add or remove close friends.

Remember that you have to be following the Instagram User to be able to add them to the Close Friend’s List. You can request to follow them and then add them from the “Following” button.

What to do with a Close Friend’s List on Instagram:

You can add top customers and team members to a Close Friends List to showcase new arrivals, event sneak peeks, and share exclusive content to this select group before it goes live to the public.

What I Want You To Take Away From This Blog:

  • Use Close Friends to share exclusive content
  • Add and remove IG users as you please
  • Show up at the top of their feeds

Okay, over to you…

If you’d like to keep up with best practices, new features and the tried and true social strategies that WORK for retailers, consider becoming an Insider member!
