What Retailers Need to Know About Content Marketing in 2023

You hear a lot of contrasting information online regarding what to post, what features to use, and what content types work best on social media. Here at Crystal Media, we work exclusively with retailers, and research, test, and strategize what works best for them! That’s why we’re sharing this list of 3 need-to-use tips for content marketing in 2023.

What Retailers Need to Know About Content Marketing in 2023

1. Try something new on stagnant platforms.

Many retailers stick to what they know—whether that’s going Live on Facebook, posting single image feed posts on Instagram, sharing posts to their Stories… and don’t get me wrong, these can all be great ways to share content. But you may be missing out on reaching new audience members, or connecting with your existing audience in new ways by using unique and different content types. A big strategy for content marketing in 2023 is to try something new, and see how it performs with your audience.

This isn’t the first time we’ve recommended this. We’ve encouraged retailers often in the past to mix up their content. Find some inspiration for shaking up your content in The Number 1 Thing Every Retailer Needs To Know, where we share 30 fresh ideas!

2. Post consistently for both your audience and the algorithm.

It’s likely your videos are at a standstill. We heard from several event audience members earlier this year who said their videos were doing well until Q4 of 2022, when suddenly their views and engagement dropped. They went from a consistent few thousand views to crickets—less than a few hundred views. Many of our clients are experiencing this same thing. We believe the algorithms are testing new ways to connect content with the right audiences and, as a result, many accounts are experiencing a lag in engagement and views. What we can recommend is DO NOT GIVE UP and stay consistent with your posting!

What we’re looking for here is a steady slight increase in views. We’re trying to raise results again with the correct audience of engaged fans! Just because algorithms are in a funk doesn’t mean you should give up. Now’s the time to show the algorithm you’re committed—even if the results are not currently in your favor. We encourage you to stick with it.

3. Show your brand personality in each post.

You’ve heard us say it a million times. People like buying from people! A small business has the power to showcase the store’s personality, the team and the store owner’s personality and interests!

Meta recommends showing your branding within the first 3 seconds of a video. You can do this in many ways—from using a consistent greeting (we always say “Hey Retailers!”) to including your brand colors. Always incorporate your branding and brand personality in your content to help grow your community.

What I Want You To Take Away From This Blog:

  • Try new content types to see which types perform best with your audience.
  • People love buying from people. Be sure to humanize your brand and show your personality online.
  • Post consistently to see growth for your content marketing in 2023.

Okay, over to you…

Which of these will you try first? Let us know in the comments below!
