For the longest time, I was focused on always competing with others, but my competitors had no idea they were even competing against me. Because of my competitive nature, I would be the first one in the office and the last one to leave. I always felt like I would be doing more with my day than most people with how much emphasis I put on checking things off my to-do list, but when I started being honest with myself I realized what I was really doing was taking away the joy in my life.
I was burnt out. I realized I needed to shift my priorities and my mindset which made me start to put myself first. I started a new exercise routine in the mornings, making healthier choices with my diet, and taking a few minutes out of my day to meditate, I was able to really improve my overall wellbeing. I can now show up better in my business, be there for my team and really tackle my to-do list.

Another self-realization that I had was on the way I approached my to-do list. New tasks would come up all the time and it can make an already daunting to-do list feel impossible to manage, but that’s when I realized I didn’t want to have that mentality anymore. I changed my mindset to a more positive one, I started to block my time to boost my productivity, I use a project management tool to keep myself and my team organized (asana.com), and it allowed me to build momentum. I live by the motto done is better than perfect because this is what allows me to push myself forward.
So, yes, I had to ask myself some tough questions to get to this breakthrough, but the ripple effect it had not just in my business but in all aspects of my life is what’s truly important.
I want to encourage all of you to time block, to approach your to-do list including your social media with the mindset of “This is what I need to do to run my business,” and to take care of yourself because you have to be able to show up for your team, for your customers and for yourself in order to run your business.
To the future,
Crystal
