The Top Questions We Get Asked as a Social Media Marketing Agency

The Crystal Media team is often on the road speaking at conferences, meeting retailers at various events, or simply engaging with business owners on social media, so we get asked quite a few repeat questions that we’d like to tackle for you today! Here are the most common FAQs we get asked by retailers.

Question: Why should I switch to a business account on my social media?

Answer: If you have a social media channel promoting your business, that social media channel should be a business account. We understand that you may not have access to the full library of licensed music when you have a business account, but that’s just the rules you need to follow. The algorithms are smart and can recognize that your account may be a business listed under a personal or creator account, which can flag your account and content for violating the guidelines. Your content (or even account) can be secretly suffering or removed—all so you could use the latest Harry Styles song! It’s just not worth it, as there are plenty of trending original audios and music available for businesses to use in the commercial sound library.

Lastly, social media is oversaturated and the algorithm tries to connect your content with the right audiences. If you aren’t listed as a business account, you’re doing your business a disservice by not being connected to people who generally engage and shop with brands on social media. Help the algorithm help you out by switching your account now!

Question: Can you share the social inspiration of retailers that do a great job on social media?

Answer: We often get asked to share business accounts that create great content and follow lots of best practices. Here are a few of the accounts I go to for inspiration. Give them a follow for ideas and tips:

  • @whimsyandrow – Boutique
  • @omsom – Food
  • @marrowfine – Jewelry

Question: How do I brand my social media posts?

Answer: Oftentimes we see retailers with all sorts of fonts and colors featured on their social channels. Ideally, you should be sticking to just a couple of fonts and colors that are in your brand. A social media marketing best practice is to include your branding in several posts a week—by sharing graphics that use your brand colors, posts that include your logo (which can be storefront pictures), or the occasional branded border around your posts.

We like to recommend Canva.com to easily create graphics that can be adjusted to your brand. With the Pro version of Canva, you can easily load up your own brand kit and drop in your colors and fonts to customize any template you like for your own social media marketing needs.

We also recently shared a quick video tip on how to copy and paste your logo onto your Instagram Stories to brand them.

Question: How do I grow my following?

Answer: When we get asked this question, it’s usually from someone who wants to skyrocket their following in just a couple of weeks and gain a ton of followers through social media marketing. It’s very unrealistic to expect overnight success, and how we like to answer this question is to share best practices to please both your audience and the algorithm.

Using new features, posting consistently, engaging with other posts, and being active on the platforms you want to grow are all great ways to increase a following. We also want to emphasize the importance of quality content that follows the 80/20 rule; where 80% of your posts should offer real value to your audiences, and only 20% of your posts should have the sole purpose of selling products. We share more about this concept in our blog post, “Use The 80/20 Rule To Grow And Maintain An Online Community In 2022.”

Strategies for social media marketing

What I Want You To Take Away From This Blog:

  • Use a business account on Instagram and TikTok to reach the right audience for your business.
  • Include your branding in your social media posts weekly.
  • Use the 80/20 rule to create quality content to grow your audience.

Okay, over to you…
