The Do’s & Don’ts of IG Reels

Have you been creating short-form video content on one of the most talked about features on Instagram? 👋 Reels are becoming popular very quickly because of the easy in-app editing capabilities. They also have the ability to outperform other forms of content posted on Instagram. Many people are comparing IG Reels to TikTok, but without having to download a new app and grow a new audience.

This week, we wanted to share some of the Do’s & Don’ts of IG Reels so you can get the most out of your content! 📲

✅ Do use the features available in IG Reels, like filters, audio, the text tool, and GIFS. To watch a quick IG Reels tour video, click here.
✅ Do add a comment to your posted Reel containing hashtags that are relevant to your video and your audience.
✅ Do choose to share the post to your feed. This will help make your content more visible to your followers and IG users on the explore page. TIP: You can always remove the Reel from your homepage grid later.

Do's and Don'ts of IG Reels for Small business owners

⛔️ Don’t repost your TikToks on your IG Reels. Videos with the TikTok logo will likely get dinged in the IG algorithm. This is because Instagram doesn’t want to promote another app that may pull the user away from Instagram.
⛔️ Don’t use audio that isn’t from the Instagram music library, your original audio, or music you’ve obtained a license for.
⛔️ Don’t create a Reel just because they are popular. Create the content in the format that will work best instead of trying to fit it into a 30 second Reel. Use a regular post, a carousel post, a story, or an IGTV whenever applicable.

Something to always keep in mind is that Instagram is trying their hardest to keep users on their app and watching their content. If you’re creating captivating content that is retaining attention while using a lot of the features available in Reels, AND applying the best practices, that is a recipe for success! We can’t wait to see what you create! 💻
