Here’s a question from last month that retailers were buzzing about:
Retailer Question:
Instagram has been double-posting or flipping some of my videos. What do you think could be the cause and how would I go about fixing it?
Crystal Media’s Answer:
Ohhh yes. This is a glitch we have run into often. When Instagram is making a lot of changes (which they currently are by adding new features and working on algorithm updates), bugs and glitches are more common. One of the most common ones is getting videos flipped upside down or double-posting. I’m sorry you’re experiencing both! That is so frustrating.
The best thing you can do is keep updating the Instagram app when an update is available. Each update usually comes with bug fixes. You can search for “Instagram” in the app store, then press “Update” if it says that. If it says “Open”, you currently have the latest version.
You can also report the issue in the meantime. To report a problem on Instagram:
-Click the triple lines on the top right of your profile to get to the menu.
-Select “Settings”
-Select “Help”
-Select “Report a Problem”
From there, you can choose to include a diagnostic to better give Instagram an idea of what is going wrong. You can then explain the issue you’re running into, and also include a screenshot (if you have one) to better explain the bug to them. You can also shake your phone while on Instagram to open up the “Report a Problem” prompt!
I also saw a workaround last year for this problem, and it was to create your post but then save the post as a draft instead of posting. You can save a draft by clicking back after writing a caption on your post, then choose to “Save Draft” instead of “Discard”. On a Reel, you have the option to “Save as Draft” at the bottom of the caption portion of creating a Reel.
You can then immediately choose to go back and post the draft you just saved, and a lot of people reported no double-posts or sideways videos when they went about it this way. Although drafts can often be glitchy, I would be sure to save the Reel in your camera roll and save your caption in your notes in case you’re experiencing this bug there too (which would just be plain unfair at this point)!
Let’s hope Instagram is getting a lot of these problems reported and can fix this issue quickly! I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you in the meantime!
