In Crystal Media’s Insider Facebook group, we scour the retailer questions for the most talked-about topics to share the answers that we know all store owners can benefit from.
Here’s a question from last month that retailers were buzzing about:
Retailer Question:
I am trying to come up with some fun events/social ideas where I can give away product to our customers! Do you have any ideas that worked well for you? Or have any insight?
Crystal Media’s Answer:
Hey there! I love this idea! Here are a few things I’ve tried in the past when I worked for a retailer:
1). Promote that anyone who spends over X amount of dollars that month will be entered to win a basket of your products. Let’s just say anyone who spends over $50 will be entered to win. You’ll have to be sure to collect their name, email and phone at checkout (great way to grow your email list), and their receipt will be added to a basket behind the counter for a chance to be drawn at the end of the month!
Please check with your local and state laws about promotions and giveaways relating to entry with a purchase!
2). The name game. Each day (for however long you want to play) you can write a single name on a sign and post to social. Anyone with that name who comes in with an ID can get a free item. I worked on a marketing team for a garden center and we gave away a succulent to everyone that came in for the name game, but a lot of people do small candles, soaps, stationery, or something edible.
3). You can choose a weekend in the summer to celebrate the new season or school being off with a sale event! You can serve lemonade and small snacks, and maybe decorate the store a little bit. The first 10 people in line that morning (or however many people you’d like), get a free item when they come in!
If anyone else has any ideas they’ve tried, we’d love to hear them here for inspiration!
