Either of these sound familiar?
- You’re locked out of your Facebook page. Translation: You’re now locked out of your business page. Because you’re the only Admin on your business page, your page sits dormant as the days (or weeks) go by while you navigate the process of contacting Facebook to regain access.
- Your ad account gets disabled and you need to request a review. However, you can’t get into your Business Manager account, and no one else can get in either since you’re the sole Admin.
We’ve been seeing this more often, but there’s a simple solution to make this frustrating situation smoother: Make sure you have a minimum of 2 Admins on both your Business Manager and Facebook Page. That way, if you get locked out, there’s someone else who can still go in and manage things from their end—including working to get your access back, posting to the business page, and speaking to Facebook directly.
How to add an Admin to Business Manager
If they’re already in your Business Manager as a “Person”, but only as an employee:
- In Business Settings, navigate to People.
- Choose the person you want to make an Admin, then click Edit in the upper-righthand corner.
- Change their role from Employee to Admin.
If they’re not in Business Manager:
- In Business Settings, navigate to People.
- Click Add.
- Enter the email of the person you want to work in Business Manager and choose “Admin” for role.
- Inform the person they need to confirm the addition on their end (they will receive an email to the address you used).
How to add an Admin to Facebook Page
- In Business Settings, navigate to People.
- Choose the person you want to make an Admin of the Page.
- Choose Add Assets.
- Pick the asset you want to give them access to (the Facebook Page) and be sure to choose Manage Page.
One of the pro tips I shared during EVOLVE, our annual retail marketing conference, was that the person you add should be someone you trust and is likely to be around for the long haul (think: long-term employee, the dedicated social media or marketing manager, or even a spouse or best friend).
If you don’t already have Admins in place, go do it right now! Not only will it save you from future headaches, it’ll also provide peace of mind.
What I Want You To Take Away From This Blog:
- The owner of the business should own the Business Manager, and be an Admin on all assets—no matter how involved they are in day-to-day social media activities.
- Having a minimum of 2 Admins for your Business Manager and Facebook Page is a must.
- Checking in and updating your Admins should be part of your regularly scheduled social media tasks and employee on/off boarding.
Okay, over to you…
Who have you designated as the Admins on your accounts? Let us know in the comments.
I was setting up a page approval with Mark Kevin advised me to wait for 24hrs until the page is approved, however I’m nolonger the admin on that page. So I have a problem of giving someone my facebook secret code. Please advise is this normal or its a scam? This man claims to be from a company called buzzfeed. Should I give him my facebook account login details and secret code so that they can make me the admin on that page. My business page is nolonger published on Facebook. Please advise. Your positive response will be highly appreciated.
Hi Neli, I’m sorry you’re having trouble. We don’t work with or know Mark Kevin. My advice would be to not share your information or codes with anyone you don’t know. If you lost your admin rights or page, check out the FB Help page on admin rights here: https://www.facebook.com/help and be persistent with your communication. I hope this helps.
