3 Ways to Use the Instagram Filters Green Screen Effect

Instagram filters are becoming a popular way for retailers to connect with their audience. Not only do these effects relate to the type of content your viewers create. But they also can help generate more reactions and replies on your content.

Retailers have been using Instagram filters in both Reels and Stories, and we noticed one filter in particular was a great way to both sell products and use storytelling in your content. The Green Screen Effect by Instagram is an effect that allows the user to upload an image or video to the background, while filming a video of themselves in the foreground.

If you’d like to learn how to use the Green Screen Instagram Filter, watch this 3 minute “How To” video on our IGTV channel.

Instagram filters tips for retailers

There are so many great ways to use this filter as a retailer. So we’re sharing 3 different content ideas to use the Green Screen Effect:

1. Share the story of how your business opened.

To do this, you can upload a photo of the early days of your business to the background of the filter. In the foreground, you can explain the picture you chose to feature, the history of the store, and how the business came to be. This content idea is meant to connect with your audience and humanize your brand.

TIP: We suggest filming a few clips talking about the history of your store and then create an IG Reel combining the clips.

2. Creatively showcase product images.

Upload product photos or videos to the background of the filter and film a video of yourself or a team member explaining features and benefits of the product in the foreground of the filter. This content idea is meant to sell products. Think of it as explaining the product to a customer in your store.

TIP: Post to IG Stories to showcase your product in an interesting way.

3. Set the scene using your products.

Upload a video or a photo background of where or how the customer would use the product. In the foreground, film a person wearing or using the product. An example of this is if you’re a bathing suit store, upload a photo of the beach in the background of this filter. In the foreground, have an employee wear a bathing suit and pretend they are on the beach! This will give the customer an idea of how the product will look outside of the store. So they can imagine how they would use it.

TIP: Film a few different product videos and clip together for a fun IG Reel.

To use the Green Screen Effect, learn how to save the filter to your Instagram camera.
